Farouk Abdullah Alwyni

Founder & President Director

Farouk is both an Islamic finance practitioner and lecturer. He spent most of his Islamic finance career in the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank Headquarters handling hundreds of US$ million IDB trade finance operations in many countries in Asia & CIS countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Maldives, and Tajikistan (1998-2007).

Prior to running PT. Alwyni International Capital (AIC) in 2012, Farouk was a member of the executive management of PT. Al-Ijarah Indonesia Finance (ALIF), the first Islamic leasing company in the country (owned jointly by Bank Muamalat Indonesia and Gulf Islamic financial institutions), in 2007-2009 and PT. Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI) in 2009-2011 where he initiated and implemented a number of new initiatives.

Farouk serves as the chairman and co-founder of Center for Islamic Studies in Finance, Economics, and Development (CISFED), a Jakarta based think tank whose objective is to develop an integrated paradigm in addressing Indonesian and global development issues. He also lectures in Perbanas Institute Graduate School of Management (MM Program – Perbanas Institute) and the Graduate School of Management (MM Program), the Faculty of Economics & Business, the University of Indonesia (MM-FEB-UI) on Islamic finance and banking subjects. He is one of the country correspondents for Kuala Lumpur based-Islamic Finance News.

Currently, Farouk has also been appointed as Regional Director for South-East Asia in a start-up technology company i.e. Executive Muslim that will be launched soon to offer services to professionals, companies, and charities to access a global market place.

Farouk obtained his Bachelor in Banking & Financial Management from Perbanas Institute (Jakarta-Indonesia), MA in Economics from New York University (USA), and MBA in International Banking & Finance from the University of Birmingham (UK). He also has Diploma in Islamic Finance from Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA), London, UK & Islamic Finance Qualification (IFQ) from Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), London, UK. Farouk speaks and writes about Islamic Finance in local as well as international forum and media.

Ambassador Muhammad Siddik

Advisory Board

serves as a member of Advisory Boards in the Alwyni International Consulting. He started his career as UNICEF Program Officer for Pakistan, Nepal, Philippine, and Afghanistan. From 1976 to 1979, Ambassador Siddik was assigned as UNICEF Assistant Country Representative for Nepal. From 1979 to 1984, he was Assistant Director of Organization of Islamic Conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Siddik spent 17 years as an official in Islamic Development Bank (IDB) including as the Director of IDB Regional Office based in Kuala Lumpur and IDB Ambassador for Asia-Pacific. His current position is Program Coordinator for Indonesia International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT) in Herndon, VA, USA. Ambassador Siddik graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, USA with Master of Arts in Development Studies. He also attended various courses and workshops in USA and Middle East Countries.

Paul Wouters

Advisory Board

serves as a member of AIC Advisory Board. He has 25 Years of experience in legal support on drafting and negotiation of various types of business contracts including Islamic legal contracts.. Paul Wouters also has experience in Islamic Finance and Banking, Financial Regulations, asset management investment vehicles, and foreign direct investment.

He started his career as in-house counsel at Dredging International (Part of Ackermans & Van Haaren Group) in 1987. He spent five years as a Partner at Donnet – Vaes & Wouters Law office, Antwerp, Belgium. Paul Wouters is a counsel and Partner at Bener Law Office and Bener Consulting based on Istanbul Turkey. He also serves a member of advisory boards in several Islamic financial institutions including at Islamic Finance News and Islamic Finance Consulting. Paul Wouters is a licensed lawyer (Belgium) and admitted to Bar (Antwerp Bar Association) in 1985.

He graduated from Antwerp university in 1983 with Law Degree (with merits and distinction). He is a Accredited Debt Mediator Antwerp Court First Instance and Accredited Mediator at Antwerp Bar Association. He holds Islamic Finance Qualification and Rescheduling and Restructuring Islamic financing facilities.

He has authored several books including The European Company SE, Finance Contracts – the Islamic approach, and Islamic Private Equity Fund IPEF. He also gave speech at several conference and forum including MIF Malaysia Issuers and Investors Forum, Islamic Finance Roadshow, and Conference Islamic Markets

Imam Nur Azis

Director

Prior to Joining the AIC, Imam Nur Azis spent his years as the consultant in consulting finance based in Jakarta. He was the Director in manufacturing industry in Central Java. For five years, Imam served as political adviser to the Chairman of People Consultative Assembly of Indonesia. He used to be a journalist and involved in several Non-Government Organizations. He was a political advisor in Parliament of Indonesia. He took his master degree in political economy from Leeds University, UK. He also took several course from overseas education institutes.

Abuzar Asra

Senior Partner

Obtained his M.Sc. from the University of Michigan, USA, prior to being conferred a Ph.D. from the Griffith University, Australia. Attended a number of short-courses/trainings in both Indonesia and overseas, including on Islamic banking and finance. Worked for the Asian Development Bank, the Philippines, for almost 12 years and for the Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Arabia for two years.

Has been international consultant for a number of international organizations. Was part-time lecturer at a number of universities in Jakarta and once served as Rector of the Institute of Management and (Computer) Information, Muhammadiyah, Jakarta. Produced over 100 publications in English and Bahasa Indonesia as books, papers, refereed articles, chapters in books, and individual reports.

Is a referee for papers submitted to, among others, the ASEAN Economic Bulletin, the Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy (JAPE), and the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies. Serves as a member of the Editorial Board of JAPE. Is now Research Professor on urban and regional economics at the Institute of Statistics, Jakarta and part-time lecturer of the School of Government and Public Policy, Jakarta.

Muhammad Arfian

Muhammad Arfian is a business professional with broad experience in consulting, strategic planning, business development and human capital development. Trained as strategist and having strong interest in building competitive advantage of regions in Indonesia. Muhammad is broadening his experience in project financing and investment management, and combining his expertise to build new businesses and industries especially in eastern parts of Indonesia. He also has high interest in improving quality of business human resources in Indonesia through provision of proper and right business trainings.

Prior to joining the Alwyni International Consulting, Muhammad had been providing consulting and training services to Indonesian companies as Director in PT. Alue Indonesia. He also helped South Halmahera Government in managing and developing the government’s owned company, by developing new businesses in forestry, fishery and mining. He also helped the regency government promoting South Halmahera Regency to potential investors in Indonesia and abroad. Before that he spent his first 10 years of career in Japan as management consultant at A.T. Kearney K.K. and Strategic Planning Manager at Trendmicro Inc. As management consultant, he involved on many consulting projects for Japanese major company clients.

Muhammad obtained MBA in International Business Strategy from Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan and his Bachelor of Commerce from the same university.

Yovan Rizaldy

Associate Partner, Head of Strategic Infrastructure and Acting Corporate Secretary

Yovan Rizaldy has served in various positions in the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia. He worked as fund specialist and manager which managing infrastructure projects loan/grant and state budget deficit financing. He also involved in formulating several regulations and debt strategies during his career in the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia.

Yovan also spent his time at Independent Evaluation Department Asian Development Bank (ADB). At ADB, Yovan was involved in energy efficiency study team and assisting in evaluation of several energy projects. He got his MSc in International Political Economy with specialization in energy security from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He attended several courses and workshops held by several International Institutions including decision making course, defense management workshop and macroeconomic and fiscal policy course.

Agung Prijo Nugroho

Agung Prijo Nugroho is both a practitioner and consultant in several fields of expertises, especially in the areas of finance, corporate banking , legal, IT development, restructuring, risk  management,  commodity financing, asset management and business development. He has more than 24 years of professional  experience in national and multinational companies and has been a partner of several consulting firms.

Fawwaz

Junior Partner

Fawwaz is a banker specializing in product development. He obtained his bachelor degree with finance major from University of Indonesia. Prior to joining the Alwyni International Capital, Fawwaz worked for Aviatrans Asia Pacific, an aviation company based in Jakarta with a representative office in Jeddah. He then went to INCEIF-Kuala Lumpur where he obtained his Chartered Islamic Finance Professional degree and afterward served as analyst at Mayban Investment Management (now Maybank Asset Management) in which he also involved in several product developments.
